Anxiety

A Mental Health Poem

Palpitations everywhere, mind and thought a blur,

Heart is beating faster than I thought it ever could.

Rising tension in my back, can hardly feel my hands,

Legs are pacing quickly now, how can I even stand?

Racing, racing, rhythmic drums, my voice won’t stop and listen,

Grating, screeching in my ears, I hear unanswered questions.

Nothing soothes me, nothing calms, nothing brings me comfort,

Nowhere is a glimpse of rest, I feel my breaths are numbered.

If I could stop and respite here, if only for a moment,

Then maybe I would have a chance, to feel some brief enjoyment.

Then anxious heart would rest assured that sorrow had it’s day,

Now moving on to restful hours where tranquil mind has say.
