DECLARATIONS OF INDEPENDENCE

1. The right team. Independent theatre is bloody hard work, as you know. It can be stressful at the best of times. So maybe sure you assemble the right team around you — be on the same page, have the…

Could The Thing Keeping Us Alive Be The Death Of Us?

The sun could burn us alive…

As you all know the sun has about 1,000,000 different ways it could take us out, but this one could happen at any moment, whether that’s in a week or 100 years, we will never know. Like most things in space, the sun is unpredictable. Today we will be talking about solar expansion. The sun is slowly expanding into a red giant. This won’t happen for a long time, but it is getting hotter and closer as you read this article. Even though this won’t happen until 5,000,000,000 years from now it can grow massively at any time. Meaning if it expands earth may get obliterated or at the very least changed for the worst.

How likely is this to happen you may ask? This is not determinable, the sun is too unpredictable to predict when something like this may happen. There are no signs to look at to know when it will happen soon but when it does it will likely cause massive damage.

If this were to happen today the effects would be devastating, but of course the size it grows to determines a lot. If it were to grow the size of a red giant (which is practically impossible) it will consume the inner planets including earth. This would kill all life on earth and disintegrate the planet in less than a millisecond. if it were to grow less however let’s say just a little bit. Radiation would increase, you would have to wear sunscreen to avoid burns and cancer in the long term, and in the super long term, most humans would adapt to this and would tan easily and burn rarely. Also, the heat would go up. temperatures depending on how much it increases could increase an average of a few degrees or hundreds. If it increases by hundreds this would be devastating. Results like AC units breaking because they are being worked too hard and this would lead to most people getting heat strokes and all glaciers and ice caps would melt and oceans, rivers, lakes, and ponds would dry up worldwide. We would slowly start running out of water and probably food too because plants wouldn’t be able to grow in the extreme heat. Animals and humans alike would die a slow and hot death due to radiation, overheating, dehydration and starvation. Some extreme people may even resort to cannibalism.
