After Midnight

We were crazy …

There was nothing a couple like us could not do. We had climbed mountains, jumped cliffs, we went out for an adventure at 4 am for the simple fact that we could not sleep.

We dance all night or at least half of it, just to feel free.

We were traveling. I do not remember where we were going.

I had this feeling . I’ve never liked airplanes.

He took my hand once the pilot said we were going to land. — “Thank you, God.” — I thought once I heard the wheels of the plane against the pavement; As always happens on a plane, everyone gets up and takes out their belongings, ready to stretch their legs and run away.

I just wanted to get some sleep. Sitting for more than 12 hours is not recommended by any doctor. We decided to take a taxi. I saw the street lights; one side of me:The savage, wanted to stop the taxi to walk through those lights. When I turned my head to look at him, he was asleep. A few minutes ago he had said that we should go dancing. Entering the Hotel I asked him if he wanted to leave but he was to sleepy to answer.

2:00 am. We had landed four hours ago and I was still awake waiting for dawn to leave. I was to anxious to sleep — So much to see and so less time; or at least I used that as an excuse to convince myself that I should go alone.

It was cold. I asked the man at the desk for a map. What would be my first adventure? I’ve never been good at reading maps, honestly: I really do not know how I made it through geography.

Aimlessly. Everything I saw was so fascinating, definitely this place made me feel like home.

Thirty minutes later I was lost. Great. I saw a young man sitting by a fountain, he was smoking weed; I approached him to ask for directions on how to get back to my hotel. I remember that he looked at me with intrigue and said: — ‘’ Why do you ask for directions if you have a map? ‘’ — my answer was completely honest. I had no clue how to read that shit. I was desperate.

He got up and dropped the filter he had between his fingers then crushed it with his boot. We were walking, he turned out to be a friendly person. He had asked me where I was from and why I was there; I had told him that I liked adventures at midnight and that I expected to have one but in my desperation to know I ended up getting lost. Every time I spoke, he raised one of his eyebrows as if he was trying to analyze what I was saying. I began to feel uncomfortable; the way he looked at me — like if he was a predator and I, his prey.

I looked around and did not recognize the place. I said. — ‘’ We going to the hotel, right? ‘’ — He looked at me sideways and said: — ‘’ I thought we were going for an adventure ‘’ — Something inside me, turned on.

5:02 am. He had taken me to the beach. Turned out that before the sun came out and the tide went up, the water looked pink, it was really beautiful.

I took the audacity to ask him why he was alone at dawn next to a fountain. He simply answer: — ‘’ I thought about what I would do on my last day living; then decided to live.‘’ -

And … for the first time in my life,

I understood that an adventure was not about risking yourself or doing crazy shit, but about feeling alive.
