Just Stop Being Daft

Today a pair of twerps glued themselves to a Constable painting in the National Gallery. This show of stupidity in the name of Just Stop Oil follows on from a similar episode that occurred the other day at an art gallery in Manchester. What staggers me is the ease at which these protestors are able to do this kind of thing. Where is the security? They risk damaging a valuable work of art, something that is virtually priceless because, well, they can. What do they hope to achieve? How is this act of vandalism going to get people on their side? Maybe they have a point with the message behind the protest but the way they go about it invalidates any point they hope to convey. I do not think — ah yes thank you for bringing to my attention the fact that oil is bad and we should stop using it. I think — these fools should stop making themselves a nuisance, soiling the land they profess to love and care about and do something more constructive instead. I’m all for free speech and being able to protest but do it in a way that doesn’t affect the lives of people just trying to get on with their day.
